So I went to get gas in my car yesterday afternoon at Town Pump in Four Corners (Jackrabbit & Norris)…only to get gas…and look what I came home with!!! I stopped when I saw this cool farmer and his “mini-me” son as they were diligently loading bags of food and boxes into someone’s truck! Their trailer was pulled up beside a bunch of tables, and they were loaded with goodies!! My happy place! No lie…I was really eyeing all the canned pickled yummies to start with (why get one jar when you can get three?) but he had me at,”What about this this and this”, and I found myself saying,”Yes of course I need a fresh loaf of bread! Fresh chicken? Of course I do!” He even made me sample (as if I wasn’t drooling and wanting a sample anyway!!) a pickled snap pea first saying,”I want you to know what you’re buying”…it could have been laced with Meth and I wouldn’t have cared…I was in deep. I tried to engage his mini-me son in conversation (they were wearing matching black pants, plaid shirts and suspenders…that was enough to suck me in!) but I think my frighteningly outgoing nature and conversational skills stunned him into silence..that cute kid never said a word! Then suddenly a man drove up, and got out of this truck, and the Farmer said,”Good to see you Don!” and he turned to me and said, “You know why Don is here?” “To get one of my special chickens” and he gently thumped the last chicken sitting on the table. Don said, “That’s right ..they’re the only ones I buy!” I suddenly felt competitive like “I need this Chicken, Don can’t have it!” I was lulled into the Farmer’s Spell instantly! I said, “I’ll take it!” Where did that come from? I wasn’t planning on buying any chicken! Then I felt bad like I was stealing Don’s chicken…The Farmer said, “Don’t worry, I have more” Phew! Both Don and I can enjoy our fresh chicken! Before you know it, I was buying both varieties of potatoes and a bag of already blanched and frozen peas…what? I’m on the fence of whether I even like peas…but there there were, all green and fresh, staring at me from the baggie. The silent one loaded up my huge box and I paid the Farmer. He told me to let everyone know that he’s there every Saturday; so I’m delighted to share this with all of you because this is what makes Montana steal my heart away day after day after day…..it’s not the Zombie Patrol guy..its this humble, kind and hardworking farmer from Harlowtown…God Bless him and his delightful son! (Great salesman too, maybe this Farmer can be on my Real Estate Team!!!! ) Look these guys up at Town Pump in Four Corners, they’re from Springwater Colony in Harlowtown…they can take my money anytime!!!!! Go see them!!!! I suddenly feel like I want to wear Suspenders!
